Since lithograph invented in Germany at the end of the 18th century was able to be made only by drawing on a stone board the same with sketching by hand, it spread quickly in Europe.
And many colored lithographs were printed, and many books of prints such as "L'estampe original", "L'estampe nouvel", and "L'estampe moderne", were published at the end of the 19th century.
"L'estampe moderne" was the fine-arts magazine published by Delteil from 1897 to 1899, with which 100 kinds of lithographs (150 copies on specially stamped paper) drawn by the famous painters Mucha, Steinlen, Ammann=Jean, Willet, and others representing France and Europe were attached.
It is a collection of masterpieces which the Louvre Museum, Hermitage Museum, National Western Museum, Machida Municipal International Hanga Museum possess.
I exhibit and introduce about 40 lithograph at the end of the 19th century focusing on the "L'estampe moderne" this time. Please view. You will see the influence of ukiyoe of Japan and the flow to Arts and Crafts Movement and Art Nouveau in there.
